History of FDQ Developing qualifications for 25 years Our roots trace back to 1946, with the establishment of the Institute of Meat Part of the FTC Group, we are a non-for-profit organisation Let's go back in time.... When did it all start? Food and Drink Qualifications Ltd was first created back in 2001, though our roots trace back to 1946, with the establishment of the Institute of Meat (IoM). The IoM remains a sister organisation and a valuable source of meat industry expertise to this day. Did you know? We were the 11th End-point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) out of over 100 other EPAOs to have been registered to deliver EPAs. We delivered our first EPA in April 2017, the Level 2 Butcher Apprenticeship Standard. Did you know? We have now delivered over 3,000 EPAs. We also provide over 160 food and drink industry related qualifications. Timeline.... 1946 The Institute of Meat (IoM) now sister organisation to FDQ was introduced 1986 2001 The Meat Training Council, a not-for-profit skills charity was formed Food and Drink Qualification Ltd was created, John Herbert Alan Stevenson became the first Company Director 2005 2011 Bill Jermey is appointed as Director of Food and Drink Qualifications (FDQ) FDQAwards was introduced by FDQ, a secure centre management system for approved FDQ centres 2013 2014 Terry Fennell appointed as Group Operations Manager for the Food and Drink Training and Education Council (FTC) The Meat Training Council rebranded to Food and Drink Training and Education Council or now commonly known as FTC 2016 2017 Terry Fennell promoted to Chief Executive Officer and Responsible Officer for FDQ FDQ introduced their first EPA Standard 2018 2022 Jane Downes appointed as Director of FDQ Christine Walsh appointed Chief Executive Officer for the Food and Drink Training and Education Council (FTC) FDQ Teams Operations The operations team strive to provide unrivalled support to all our apprentices and learning providers, aiming to deliver the best possible customer care Quality Assurance We believe having a team of experienced, friendly, fair and hard working individuals helps us stand out from the crowd. Explore the latest opportunities and make sure to keep checking for the latest job vacancies External Quality Assurance (EQA) Consultants FDQ Ltd is seeking expressions of interest from experienced External Quality Assurance (EQA) consultants to support our growing portfolio of qualifications and assessment services. Ideally EQACs will have worked in a food and drink related industry or training establishment and be familiar with standard operating practices. As an awarding organisation with a strong reputation for quality, credibility and sector insight, FDQ works with a wide range of food and drink centres, employers and FE institutions across the UK. We are wishing to increase our pool of EQA consultants with the expertise to help us maintain high standards and support continuous improvement. About the role Working on a consultancy basis, EQA consultants with FDQ may be asked to: Provide external quality assurance across regulated and/or unregulated qualifications Review assessment design, delivery, marking and internal quality assurance Support centres to understand and meet awarding organisation and regulatory requirements Produce clear, evidence‑based reports with constructive feedback Contribute to standardisation, risk management and quality improvement activity Engagements will be ad hoc and flexible, depending on expertise and operational need. What we are looking for We are particularly interested in individuals who can demonstrate: Proven EQA experience, ideally within awarding, apprenticeship, or regulated qualification contexts Strong working knowledge of quality assurance frameworks, assessment principles and compliance requirements Experience of working, training or assessing in a food and drink occupation Professional independence and sound judgement, with the confidence to provide appropriate challenge Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing Experience of working with Ofqual‑regulated qualifications or apprenticeships is especially welcome.
