Level 3 Advanced Butcher End-point Assessment

The Advanced Butcher apprenticeship is designed to prepare butchers to take responsibility. Advanced butchery apprentices may find themselves taking responsibility for a production line in a large meat processing plant, running an independent butchers shop or managing a supermarket meat counter.

As well as high level butchery skills the Advanced Butcher apprenticeship also develops the managerial and technical skills needed to contribute to profitability, and the safe, efficient operation of the business.

The Advanced butchery end-point assessment (EPA) consists of three elements:

  • A knowledge test, consisting of multiple-choice questions and short answer questions

  • A workplace observation, lasting 2 hours minimum

  • An interview, lasting 40 minutes and underpinned by a portfolio

Advanced Butchery end-point assessment tests should be completed in this order and within twelve weeks of the EPA gateway. Usually the EPA is completed on the same day.

Why FDQ?

With our strong meat industry background FDQ was chosen to support the development of the Advanced Butcher Standard. As a result we know the apprenticeship inside out. We were also the first end-point assessment organisation approved to deliver EPA for it and have been doing so successfully from its launch.

As an awarding as well as end-point assessment organisation we offer the mandatory Food Safety qualifications that form part of this apprenticeship. Having everything in one place makes managing an apprenticeship programme so much simpler.

When you book an EPA with FDQ you’ll be allocated an experienced Butchery Independent Examiner to guide you and your apprentice through their end-point assessment. You’ll also have access to our extensive support materials, such as preparation guides and mock exams.

All this helps to give your butchery apprentice the best chance of success, and you the peace of mind that we’ve got all bases covered.
